Our internet is still threatened! D:

Post by Henix Aurorus on Mon Jan 23, 2012 12:12 pm

It's come to my attention that the threat to the internet is not over yet. Yes, we've stopped SOPA and PIPA. But the problem is, there's ACTA out there, and it's possibly the most threatening thing you can find.

What it does, and how it affects us

ACTA is a treaty between nations that will allow them all to have all ISP's monitor ALL information going through the internet. Everything will be trackable. Your emails, what you've been doing on WoW, your Pesterchum conversations, your IRC discussions, everything. Every little bit of it.

This is a huge violation of privacy, not to mention the Bill of Rights and is just outrageous. And what's bad? It's been kept a secret from the general public for YEARS until now. The assholes who are developing this bill have not released ANY information about this treaty, aside from bits and pieces about what it does. This is fucking outrageous, and it needs to be stopped.

What can I do to help stop it?

It's quite simple, really. You can [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.], get other people to sign one, and in general protest in any way you can. This treaty is dangerous to our privacy, and in turn to our nation's integrity. This treaty could get thousands of people arrested for doing insignificant things such as making a backup copy of a fucking disc if any trace of it can be found from their outgoing internet.

All of this makes the people who came up with it look inane, asinine, whatever word you want to use to describe their stupidity. This treaty is bullshit, and it needs to be stopped.

Signed,
your (not very) friendly (at the moment) neighborhood Henix Aurorus.
