10B - Suprize it's another forest level

This is what I've got so far.. There's no background yet but it's got pokey's, thwimps I'm planning on using the grey castle blocks I just haven't put any in yet and of course rolling but with different graphics than the original cave story ones. They're those grey spiked balls in this level.

Also... a forest level in a forest based hack? Who'da thunk it? XD

Alright there's a background now but it uses a custom palette so I changed the colors of the FG but I think it still looks good. It's just green now as opposed to brown and autumny.







The mouth of that statue is supposed to be a door.. Do you guys think it's obvious that it is a door? Or should there be a message explaining it's a door or should I replace it with an actual door door or is it fine the way it is?







Anywho there's three of them in the forest area. They will take you to cave parts underneath the forest.

I say make the door look more like a stone statue (reminecent to CS)... I dunno and maybe take out the lower bit of the mouth (makes it look like you can't climb in.. maybe keep the teeth.



btw is it supposed to look like the original Legend of Zelda dungeons?

I never thought of that but your right it does kinda look like an original Zelda style entrance I wasn't really "going" for any specific look but anywho I removed the bottom part of the mouth hopefully this makes it look more like a door.

it does now!... maybe moreif you lower the side so it matches big mario height (the door part at least)... unless its a boss door...

So a couple of people including Henix have said that a problem with the graphics here is the green ground is just too plain and simple so I modified the graphics and would like to know if this is better:

Yeah, I like the pattern on that ground there. Also, the BG kicks ass.

Honestly, I don't see that as "better". In my opinion, it actually kind of looks worse. You should try adding actual texture instead of random lines.
